A Handy Guide on How to Prevent Acne

Introduction

One of the most common medical conditions in the United States today is acne. In fact, it is believed three of every four teenagers today suffer from this condition.

The conditions that are needed for acne to develop are a hormone imbalance, excess sebum (oil), dirt, dead skin and bacteria. Control one of these and you can prevent or stop acne.

So if you have acne or are worried about getting it, here is a handy guide for you to follow to prevent acne and even stop it.

Clean Your Face

Since acne develops from excess oil, dead skin, bacteria and dirt, you can take care of these four items by cleansing and exfoliating your face. This helps remove these four items helping you prevent acne.

Cleansing does not mean using regular bar soap (dries your face out), but a cleanser especially designed for your skin type. This should be done twice a day, once in the morning when you get up and at night, before retiring.

This type of cleansing will help remove sebum, bacteria and dead skin.

Exfoliating once or twice a week will help remove excess dead skin.

Drink Water

You have heard that drinking water is good for your over all health. But it also helps in controlling and preventing acne. By drinking at least eight glasses of water a day, you help remove body wastes more efficiently, preventing and stopping acne.

Dairy Products

Recent research has shown a link between consuming dairy products, such as milk, and the development of acne. One study found that you could have almost a 50% increase in acne by drinking at least two glasses of milk a day.

It is believed that consumption of milk will increase the amount of sebum (oil) your body produces. So if you drink milk and have acne, you may want to stop drinking milk and see if your acne condition clears up.

Diet

Your diet should consist of natural foods such as green leafy vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean meat or poultry and fish. This type of diet removes the inflammation in your body caused by you consuming processed foods.

Processed foods are foods that are refined from their natural state and contain high amounts of Omega - 6 which promotes inflammation. Inflammation will cause any breakout of acne you may develop to be more severe than normal.

Exercise

Exercising is good for good body health. It will also help you to prevent acne, by flushing your pores of bacteria as you sweat.
